Calling All Gardeners ...

 

Do you want to make your gardening “greener”?

Please join us at Rio Terrace Church on Saturday, March 20 from 9 am to noon for practical pointers on earth-friendly gardening.

 

·         Instructor Lorraine Taylor grew up gardening in Edmonton. Since graduating from the U of A with a specialisation in Horticulture, she has worked as extension horticulturist with Alberta Agriculture and taught horticulture classes for many years for several continuing education agencies. Currently Lorraine farms west of Edmonton, is the horticulturist for Lac Ste. Anne County, and is an instructor with the Stony Plain Multicultural
Centre Organic Master Gardener Program.

·         In Lorraine's words:

For a variety of reasons you would like to “green -up” your garden.
We'll talk about what organic means, the benefits of going green, and
some of the problems you might encounter. With slides and some hands on
demonstrations we will discuss the importance of improving your soil,
composting, and changing management practises. We'll look at strategies
for controlling common pests and debunk some home remedies. We'll finish the
session with some questions answered and a list of resources for more
information. Do you have a favourite gardening book? Bring it along
for us to look at.

VanEs Retreat Centre Survey

For many years a desire has been expressed to have a year round retreat

centre with private/semi private bedrooms and baths. The 2008 District

Synod mandated the VanEs Board to conduct a feasibility study of such a

facility.

As part of the feasibility study the opinions of the Canada District at large

are being sought:

·Is a retreat centre needed?

·What features should the Retreat Centre offer?

·What is the likelihood of financial support?

Please help us; share your thoughts by linking to the online survey at:

The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Your

answers are valuable and will give direction to the possibility of a retreat

centre. If you are not comfortable answering online, hard copies are

available at your church. Deadline for completing the survey is March 31.
